• PPF account

I have a ppf ac . I did not show ppf interest in past 4 year because I didn't fill return. What can I do now. I show ppf interest in exempt income other wise show at maturity Time. My another question where I show employers contribution of pf in itr if in exempt income
Asked 7 years ago in Income Tax

Dear Sir,

Though PPF interest is exempt income but you need to report such income under Schedule EI if was obligatory for you to file ITR.

No need to show Employer contribution to PF in ITR.

Thanks

Hi

You should show current year's PPF interest in exempt income. PPF interest is exempt from tax. It is only for reporting purpose. You may even opt to show entire PPF interest at the time of withdrawal.

Employer's contribution to PF need not be shown anywhere in ITR.

Dear Sir,

Hope you are doing well !

PPF falls under EEE (Exempt,Exempt,Exempt) tax basket. Contribution to PPF account is eligible for tax benefit under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. Interest earned is exempt from income tax and maturity proceeds are also exempt from tax.

You should show current year's PPF interest in exempt income.

Employer's contribution to PPF need not to be shown anywhere in income tax return.

Hello Sir

PPF interest is an exempted income and amount received on maturity is also exempted.

You should show current year's PPF interest in exempt income.

Employer's contribution to PPF need not to be shown anywhere in income tax return.

Hi

This is more of a reporting requirement and in case if you have missed it in the last 4 years, you can directly show the PPF interest as exempt income in the year of maturity.

Employer's contribution to PF need not be shown in ITR.

Hope that clarifies,

Regards,

No problem. You can show the total interest under exempt income. Alternatively, you can directly show the PPF interest as exempt income in the year of maturity.

No. There won't be any problems.

Keep a record of the interests not shown in ITRs. Include such amount of interest in exempt income in the year of withdrawal from PPF.

Hi

If you have not been showing PPF interest so far, you may chose not to show it in current year. Entire PPF interest shall be shown under exempt income in the year of withdrawal.

Even if you start showing PPF interest current year onwards, there are no issues.
