• When online Form 26QB correction is "pending for AO approval" do I need to do something?

I am an NRI living in the US, and I'm in the process of purchasing a property in Kolkata.

I made a mistake in reporting the "amount paid" to seller on my Form 26QB. I entered the amount paid to seller post-TDS deduction instead of before deduction. Although I deposited the correct amount of TDS (i.e. 1% of the total paid) when paying the challan, my Form 16B reflected 1% of what I reported as my "amount paid".

I submitted an online correction request via nriservices.tdscpc.gov.in and the request first went to the PAN of the seller, who approved it, and now has been sitting in status "pending for AO approval" for a month. I have two corrections pending, and they are both assigned to TDS wards in Delhi.

The online instructions do not make it clear whether I need to do something to resolve this, although I have seen some articles saying that I might need to approach the AO with a hard copy of the request and documents to ask for the approval.

Will the approval happen automatically, or do I need to find someone to approach the AO in Delhi? (I'm in the US, so I can't go myself, and my family lives in Kolkata.) I tried to call TRACES customer service to ask them, but was unable to get through. Thanks.

Hi,

- It will be approved online. It is better to wait for some time otherwise I am practicing in Delhi and we will take up this issue on your behalf.

Thanks

Hi,

- If the correction was done without DSC then you need to file hard copy of corrected Form 26QB, property documents, copy of PAN card and identity proof.

Thanks

Hi

The correction should have been filed with DSC for a speedy updation. It usually takes time when AO approval is required. Wait for sometime, it should get updated soon.

If the status doesn't change, you need to approach the AO for the same. If you cannot be present, someone on your behalf can do the needful.

This approaches the AO through the online database only. If the status doesn't change in 15 days, approach the AO in person.

Dear Sir,

If status does not change in 20-25 days, you can approach the AO in person.

As of now as far as my research goes the correction facility is only available for residents and not NRI.

Also the mistake you made won't create such big problem as the TDS deducted and deposited is correct, also I am trying to find a way to correct your mistake other than the method mentioned by you as it is still only available for residents and they have to meet the AO in person to get it approved.

Do you have a PAN in India and are you registered on e filing website?

If yes then we can lodge a e nivaran and get answers to our questions also why didn't you try for net banking verification?

Hope you find the information helpful if you do please rate it 5 and provide your valuable feedback for my improvement.

Thank you
