Till 31.03.2019, you can file returns for F.Y. 16-17 & 17-18. For the remaining years you need to wait for the notice u/s 148. We only need your bank statements and Form 26AS. Form 26AS is available online.

Dear Sir,

Hope you are doing well !!

Now,  You can only file online returns for  FY 16-17 and FY 17-18 on or before 31st march 2019.

For previous years returns, you'll have to file a paper return or wait for notice u/s 148.

This means that you'll need to compute the tax liability, pay any pending taxes and give a written submission to the Assessing Officer in your ward.

Following documents are required for returns filing:

  • Form 26AS is a summary of taxes deducted on your behalf and taxes paid by you. This is provided by the Income Tax Department.

It shows details of tax deducted on your behalf by deductor, details on tax deposited by taxpayers and tax refund received in the financial year. This form can be accessed from the I-T Department’s website.

  • Bank statement/passbook for interest on savings account.
  • Interest income statement for fixed deposits.
  • TDS certificate issued by banks and others.

Hi

You can file returns for FY 16-17 and FY 17-18 up to 31st March 2019. Post March, no return could be filed relating to previous years.

All the remaining 5 years returns could be filed only in response to a notice from the IT department. Check your compliance portal for any such notice.

We may assist you with return filing. It could be filed without Form 16.

If the employer has properly deducted your TDS and if you know the proper breakup of your salary then you can even file return by just using form 26AS.

Currently also you can file your income tax return for year ending 31-3-17 and 31-3-18.

What is your purpose for filing income tax return?

If it's for refund of TDS deducted and if the reason is genuine for not filing return we can try and get permission from officer or you can wait for some notice from department if the amount of TDS is bit high you must have received some notice in compliance portal so you can check there and if you need help I can help you in filing your return.

Hope you find the information helpful if you do please rate it 5 and provide your valuable feedback for my improvement.

Thank you
