• Submission of rectification application

In the IT return for the AY 2018-19 I committed a mistake, During the FY 2017-18, I received interest of Rs. 94,266/-, Rs. 9067/- from savings bank accounts and Rs. 85,199/- from Central Government as interest on arrears of pension.

In Schedule OS of IT return for AY 2018-19, instead of entering the two items separately ( in bi and biv, respectively, I entered the entire amount against biv, though in Schedule-VIA Rs. 9067/- was entered correctly, against item r under Section 80TTA.

The CCP processed the return adding Rs. 9067/- and raised demand of Rs. 2800/-

I am facing problem in filing rectification order because I am unable to "download latest utility and generate rectification XML."

Please advise how to "download latest utility and generate rectification XML."

You don't need to download the latest utility you just need to download same years utility from income tax website and file your income tax return.

You can go to e filing website and in the offline utilities select the year for which you want to download the utility and then download it.

If you need any help you can also contact me.

You can even reply to the demand notice that income has been provided properly for tax and there is no tax demand separately.

Hope you find the information helpful if you do please rate it 5 and provide your valuable feedback for my improvement.

Thank you

Hi,

- You need to file the rectification u/s 154  for the A.Y. 2018-19 because return is processed under 143(1).

Sir it is better to apply for rectification option. Where you have to choose 'reprocess the return". And then Write a letter addressing to assessing officer of your jurisdiction along with evidence for interest from SB account.

AO will reprocess the return giving you deduction u/s 80tta.

You don’t need to download the latest utility.  You may consider doing the following :

1 You can file a rectification online in case the demand is visible.

  1. File a letter with the AO stating the error made by you. Also you should give supporting for both the interest amount to prove the genuineness.

Hello,

You will have to file rectification under Sec. 154.

To generate rectification XML, you will have to download the utility for the concerned year from the income tax portal and not of the latest year.

Answering your feedback,

You will have to download the utility for the concerned ITR Form for A.Y. 2018-19. (Link: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/downloads/incomeTaxReturnUtilities?lang=eng)

Generate XML with the help of the utility by correcting the data.

Then upload it on the portal as rectification under Sec. 154 mentioning the reason as ‘Taxpayer is correcting the Data in Rectification’

I hope it helps
