I am planning to open an e commerce site
So is it necessary to take GST no. in the starting for delivery purpose
Or should we wait for getting our business established and then apply for GST no.
The problem is I am a college student and I don't have a time to and money to operate from a commercial area that is the requirement for gst no. So is there something that u can suggest.

Hello,

You are starting an e-commerce site, so you would be facilitating the supply of goods/services of other person registered on your site and would be termed as an E-commerce Operator.

An E-commerce operator is required to get compulsorily registered under GST irrespective of their turnover/receipts. Since you would be starting to deliver products, you would be liable to charge GST on your commission and also collect TCS from the consideration received on behalf of the supplier of goods/services. So yes, you would be liable to get GST registration.

Regarding the place of registration, there is no requirement to register from a commercial area only, you can work from home or some other place and get registration on that basis.

If you going to supply only your own products/services from this site, then there is a limit of turnover/receipts of Rs. 20 Lacs /40 Lacs. On excedding this limit you would be required to get GST registration. But if you make any interstate supply of goods(i.e. out of your state of registration) then also you would have to get registered under GST without any limit.

I hope this answer satisfies your requirement.

1. If you are just going to cater to the customer of your state you dont need gst number till you reach turnover of Rs. 40 lakh otherwise you need to get GST registration.

2. You can get a GST registration even for your home address if you are going to start this business from home there is no need to get a commercial property for GST.

Hope you find the information helpful if you do please rate it 5 and provide your valuable feedback for my improvement.

Thank you.

Hi,

Hope you are doing well !!

You will be required GST registration only if your turnover crosses the limit of RS 20 lakh.

Initially, there is no requirement to get GST registration.

Hi

As far as place of business is concerned, you may register your home address also as place of business.

I assume that since it's an e-commerce business, it would involve interstate sales too.

Thus, you would require GST registration.

You may apply for registration under GST within 30 days of your first interstate sale.

If you are creating an e-commerce platform whereby other sellers are registered, you would require GST registration mandatorily as you would be liable to collect TCS.

- For e-commerce operators, GST registration is mandatory without any threshold limit.

- All the vendors who will be registered on your website will also be required to obtain GST without any threshold.

- You will be required to get yourself registered in all the states as per the vendor registration/address.

- You will be required to collect TCS and deposit the TCS through the return.

- You will also be required to submit normal return for your market place fees.

- Invoicing should be done proper.
