• Regarding HRA taxation benefits

Working in a govt dept,my form 16 B showing only gross salary (Rs 100000),no separate division of allowances and HRA.But my salary slip has HRA of rs 1500 per month.I am staying in a rented house (not owned by me or wife) and spending around Rs 1.96 lakhs as rent. But i forgot to mention this while i prepared statement to my employer,so no mention of HRA in form 16B.In this context,my question is that shall i mention this in 80GG deduction (appx Rs 60000 deduction is possible)while file my return.i know that those who receive HRA cannot claim under 80GG,but my form 16 has not mentioned any division of salary as HRA,allowances etc. pls give me a solution

Hi

Ideally, your Form 16 should contain breakup of allowance even if they are taxable. Even if not shown, you may claim HRA and submit the rent receipts in case of any query from the department.

Practically, if HRA is not shown in form 16, you may claim 60k under 80GG.

- But your salary slip is showing component of HRA. In such case, benefit of section 80GG is not available.

You yourself can claim any deduction which was not provided to you by your employer due to any reason if you have proper proof.

So rather than showing as deduction under 80GG it's better to claim as exemption in HRA by calculating it as per the formula.

Hope you find the information helpful if you do please rate it 5 and provide your valuable feedback for my improvement.

Thank you
