• I received messages from Income Tax Department for not fining IT return and high Vvlue transactions

I received below messages from Income Tax Department.

18-March-2020:
Attention (AOZPXXXX9A), Your PAN has been flagged for not filing of ITR for FY 2018-19. Please file your ITR or submit online response under e-Campaign tab on Compliance Portal (CP). Access CP by logging into e-filing portal (My Account) – ITD.

12-Sept-2020:
Reminder - Attention (XXXXX1429X), Your PAN has been flagged for not filing of ITR for FY 2018-19. Please file your ITR or submit online response under e-Campaign tab on Compliance Portal (CP). Access CP by logging into e-filing portal (My Account) - ITD

23-Sept-2020:
Dear AXXXXL KXXXXE - Income Tax Department has received information about high value
transactions relating to XXXXX1429X in FY 2018-19. However, as per records available, ITR for AY 2019-20 has not been filed. Please file your ITR by 30.9.2020. You can view transaction details and submit online response under e-Campaign tab on Compliance Portal (https://compliance.insight.gov.in) - ITD

These messages mention that I have not filled my IT Return for FY 2018-19. Also, high value
transactions relating to credit card bill payment, which I made during the FY 2018-19.

During FY 2018-19, I was in Singapore and was working there. Technically I was an NRI and that is the reason I had not filed the IT Return. Also, I was not having any income in India during the FY 2018-19. For this period, I have paid income tax in Singapore (as per Singapore government rules) and have filed the returns there. I have all these income tax documents with me.

During this period (FY 2018-19), my family was using my credit card to manage their expenses. The amount of high value transactions, which IT Department mentioned is about 1400000 and its valid. This amount was used by family back in India during the FY 2018-19 to manage their expenses.

Please advise what should I do with respect to the messages received from Income Tax Department. How to reply to them and convey my message to them.

- Mention the fact that you were NRI along with the income and usage of the cc by your family.

Yes, you can revert and keep the Singapore tax filing documents ready in case if they ask. There is no need to file returns in India since the credit card was only used by dependents

If this was just relating to 14 lakh and you havent earned any income in India you can simply reply against the compliance notice that you were not required to file the return as you were NRI and not required to file Income tax return.

It is a normal campaign being run by Income tax department.

Hello,

You are required to submit your response on the compliance portal. Declaring that you were NRI and didn't have any taxable income in India. There is no need to file the income tax return.

I hope this answer satisfies your requirements.
