• Donation to a MLA candidate in his personal bank account

I donated 1 lakh rupees to a MLA candidate by cheque. I gave the cheque on the name of candidate instead of on the name of political party, which was probably credited in his personal bank acc. Can i claim the exemption under Income tax. if yes, what are the documents that i would need to take from them(candidate or party) as proof. They are ready to supply any proof that i may need.

It should be in the name of political party instead. Or if you can take the certificate from MLA for tax deduction .

Dear Sir,

You are not allowed to take exemption under income tax act for the amount given to MLA. For claiming the exemption, donation should be given to political parties.

Please feel free to call/revert in case of any doubts

Thanks and Regards

No you cannot claim deduction for donation made to MLA. It should be to the political party approved by the EC.
