• Service charge for income tax filing

I have come back from oct 2015, I have not purchased any assets after that. I have asked CA here near by to file tax return. He told me he need 10 years of bank statement. He told he will charge around RS. 2500 per year for the past three years it will cost around rs.7500. I was not having any income that time for 1 year. So I left it in the air.

I got a job in october 2016, at a salary of rs.35000 per month, they have deducted TDS not mentioning the amount deducted, Now june 2017, I went back to the same auditor because Since I got job in india, stating rs.6000 as salary total no breakup given. The same auditor told he will charge rs.2500 per year. Without NRE account involvement. Do you think it is reasonable.

Thanks

Hello Krishna,

I assume you are talking about the fees asked by your Chartered Accountant. I personally feel its reasonable but if you will go in the market you fill find Chartered Accountants doing it for even Rs.250-500 and a few of them charging 5-10000. So it totally depends as to how a professional values his time.

Hi Krishna,

The professional fee charged by the CAs depends upon there experience and ability.

Fee for return filing ranges from 500 to 20000.

So, on an average 2500 seems to be reasonable.

Hello Krishna,

The way no two doctor charges the same fee, in the same manner two different professionals may charge you a different fee. It totally how the professional values his time.

If you feel it is expensive, you can look for someone else. You may find plenty who may be cheaper than him.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has prescribed the minimum fee to be charged in respect of various services provided by a Chartered Accountant in practice. You may follow this link useful: http://icai.org/new_post.html?post_id=7252

However, in practice, some professionals are charging less than the minimum fee prescribed but in any case, the fee proposed to be charged by your auditor is reasonable.
