• Income tax deductible under 80DD

Hi ,

I have two handicapped dependents who % of disability is 80. I came across different portals and sites and it was said that we need to provide a self declaration against the expenses. Not clear on the self declaration. Do we need not provide the actual bills for availing tax benefit? It is said to submit 10 I form also. How exactly do I need to go about this?

You need to obtain a medical certificate as mandated u/s 80DD(4),as under:

"(4) The assessee, claiming a deduction under this section, shall furnish a copy of the certificate issued by the medical authority in the prescribed form and manner ..."

There is no need to attach the certificate while efiling your return. You need to produce the certificate only if you are called upon to do by the Income Tax Department.

Dear Sir,

You need to obtain a certificate from doctor and you don't need to submit the certificate at this stage. It would be required if you case is selected for scrutiny.

Please feel free to call/revert in case of any doubts

Hi,

80DD Deduction for Disabled dependents is available if you have incurred any expenses for medical treatment/training/rehabilitation of such dependents. You get straight deduction of Rs. 75,000 or Rs. 1,25,000 as the case may be.

Form 10I will be required if the disability requires periodic assessment.

Hello Sir,

The Self declaration is a normal letter, but in order to substantiate your claim it is better to maintain your expense report/ bills.

The form may be submitted directly to the ITO - when the officer asks for it.

Trust this clarifies your query.

Feel free to call / get back in case of further clarifications.

Thanking You.

Hello Sir,

The Certificate Number & Registration number would be mentioned on the medical certificate provided to you by the Government Hospital Doctor. The same number has to be mentioned in the Form.

If the actual expense is less then its less, as it is a standard deduction and has nothing to do with your actual expense. The deduction depends on the percentage of disability, so just get a medical certificate from a government hospital mentioning the percentage of disability, which will help you substantiate your claim against the Income Tax Department.

Hi,

You just need to obtain Form 10-I. No need to submit it along with IT returns. However, same shall be produced if the Income Tax Officer asks for the same.

Similarly, you just need to incur any expenses for medical treatment/training/rehabilitation of dependents to claim Deduction u/s 80DD. The deduction is a straight deduction irrespective of the amount actually spent.

Hope this clarifies your query. Feel free to call or email me on pradeep@capradeepbhat.com for any clarifications.

The deduction is actual expenditure or the limit as applicable, whichever is less.

Dear Sir,

Rs. 1,25,000/- is the limit without actual expenses consideration. With respect to Form 10I certification No. & Registration no. will be mentioned by the hospitals since it is their number for the recognition.

Sir if you are finding any difficulty for providing to your employee then at the time of filing It Returns you can mention the disability provided and it will automatically calculate the deduction. No need to provide 10I form
